homemade baked macaroni and cheese

An interesting combination of macaroni,coated in a sauce to keep it moist,and layer of lightly-set egg.
The crispy topping contrast well with the soft center.serve with buttered carrots,this make a good vegetarian meal

Cooking Ingredients

  • 8 oz short-cut MACARONI
  • salt
  • 300 ml Bechamel sauce
  • 175 g Grated cheese
  • freshly-ground black pepper
  • 3 Eggs
  • 25 g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 15 g Butter

how to cook macaroni and cheese

  1. cook the macaroni in a large saucepan of boiling salted water till all dente.meanwhile prepare the bechamel sauce but be sparing with the nutmeg.add the grated cheese,and season to taste
  2. Preheat oven to 170 Celsius Gas 3 .Grease ovenproof dish
  3. Drain macaroni and place half in dish.season and cover with half the sauce smooth the surface
  4. Lightly beat the eggs in a bowl with seasoning and pour half into the dish repeat the layers with the remaining macaroni,sauce and eggs
  5. Sprinkle the top with breadcrumbs and dot with butter,bake near the top of the oven for 30 minutes till golden
  6. serve homemade baked macaroni and cheese immediately with buttered carrots or broccoli spears

Cooking Variation
The dish can be made into a more substantial meal by additional of meat.finely chop 225g frankfurters or spicy sausage and sprinkle in the dish in layers with the other ingredients
To enhance the flavor of the cheese,try adding 1 tbsp chopped fresh aregano to sauce
